Mafia Boss Frank Cali’s Murderer Sentenced to Prison for Manslaughter
While the killer of the mob boss was sentenced, due to threats for his life and the life of his family, the length of the prison term and location the sentence will be carried out remain a secret

The killer of a mafia boss of the infamous crime family tied to illegal gambling and loansharking, the Gambino family, received a prison sentence recently.
The Killer Confesses to Manslaughter
The criminal case in question involves Francesco “Franky Boy” Cali, who was seen as Gambino mafia boss before he was murdered in 2019. Cali was shot and killed in March 2019 by Anthony Comello, an Eltingville resident who was recently sentenced to prison.
Only recently, The Staten Island Advance, citing limited information about the sentencing proceeding of the 30-year-old man, confirmed that he was convicted of the shooting and death of the former mafia boss. Most of the details regarding the sentencing will likely remain a mystery forever due to the threats the defendant received.
As explained by Justice Alexander Jeong with the state Supreme Court, St. George, Comello received “actual and implied” threats. Besides the defendant, threats were received by his family members too. It is likely that most of those threats were made by current mafia members and came in retaliation for Cali’s murder.
Although Comello was sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter, it is unclear how long his prison term is. The information about the prison where the murderer will serve his time was also left confidential. “The Court notes that the People and the defendant have alleged certain facts of frightening scenarios and possible threats with involvement of federal agencies to safeguard not only the defendant but his family members,” Justice Jeong wrote.
The Murderer Was Reportedly a QAnon Follower
The sentencing comes after initially the murderer was seen unfit for trial. Comello, who was reportedly a QAnon follower, made a range of different claims regarding Cali’s murder. At one point Comello claimed that he visited the mob boss to tell him that he was targeted by killers. On another occasion, the murderer claimed that he was coerced into killing Cali by “people” who threatened to expose that he had contracted HIV from a stripper.
QAnon, recognized by some as a cult, is a political movement that was developed nearly a decade ago, in 2017. Led by far-right American conspiracy theories, the movement exploded in popularity thanks to online forums and social media.
In essence, QAnon followers believe that an American “deep state” is behind atrocities such as satanism and child molestation. This cabal of satanic is believed to operate on a global scale and conspire against President Donald Trump. Still, as a movement without an outright leader or agenda, led by conspiracy theories, QAnon evolves and includes a range of new theories which helps it attract fresh members.
One of the claims Comello made includes that Cali was part of the aforementioned “deep state.” The mobster was shot back on March 13, 2019, when the killer crashed into his car, parked in front of the victim’s house. After Cali went out to see what happened, he talked to Comello. At some point when the mob boss turned his back on Comello, the attacker took out a gun and shot him.
Last summer, 17 individuals, including people suspected of ties to the infamous Gambino family, faced charges in an illegal gambling sting. Besides alleged Gambino soldiers, the prosecutors targeted suspected Gambino associates, accusing them of illegal gambling and loansharking, among other crimes.
