Independiente Inks Sponsorship with Sportsbet as Gambling Ad Ban Looms
As part of the agreement, Sportsbet's logo will be featured on Independiente's men's team jerseys for both home and away matches

Argentine soccer team Club Atlético Independiente has struck a new deal with the online sports betting site Sportsbet. The agreement means Sportsbet will have its logo on the front of the team’s jerseys for the 2025 season. This partnership comes at the same time as the club’s involvement in the Copa Sudamericana.
Sportsbet Set to Feature on Independiente Jerseys
Under the agreement, Sportsbet’s logo will appear on the home and away jerseys of Independiente’s men’s team. The deal also includes several business plans to boost the betting platform’s visibility throughout the year. Sportsbet, which offers online casino games, sports betting, and live casino experiences, aims to become a major player in the sports world through this sponsorship.
Independiente, an iconic Argentine football club, has a strong reputation across South America for its success in continental tournaments. The club’s partnership with Sportsbet is part of its larger plan to team up with brands that can provide long-term business support.
Even though people are upbeat about the agreement, its timing has stirred up debate. The Chamber of Deputies in Argentina passed a bill just a few days before the announcement. This bill aims to put in place an almost total ban on ads related to gambling and betting, including sponsorships in sports. Right now, the Senate is looking over this legislation. They will discuss it further once their break ends in March 2025.
Growing Gambling Sponsorships in Argentine Football Face Legislative Crossroads
This change puts the future of these sponsorships up in the air, as the bill, if passed, would stop betting companies from getting involved in football marketing. If it becomes law, this move could have a big effect on Argentine football where many top clubs have deals with gambling companies.
Independiente‘s new agreement with Sportsbet is part of a bigger picture, with three other big Argentine clubs — Boca Juniors, Racing Club, and River Plate — already teamed up with betting companies.
The bill might cause problems, but some experts think there is a chance for a compromise. It is also possible that President Javier Milei would veto it. This brings to mind talks in other sports leagues, like the Premier League, which plans to stop gambling ads on the front of team shirts by the 2025/26 season. Still, teams in the league can keep working with gambling companies through sleeve sponsorships and other ways.
Right now, Independiente seems to be making the most of the situation trying to get valuable sponsorship money before stricter rules on gambling ads might come into effect.
