iGaming Ontario Appoints Joseph Hillier as President, CEO

iGaming Ontario, the provincial gambling regulator of the online casino and sportsbook market in the namesake province in Canada, has promoted a new president and CEO.

Joseph Hillier will be joining his new position on Monday, September 8, and will take over the reins as the local iGaming market is experiencing a strong influx of suppliers and operators, and a time when the offshore market is becoming a more prominent issue.

Incoming iGaming Ontario Boss Braced for Important Market Developments

He previously served as chief strategy officer and corporate secretary at the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, bringing relevant experience from overseeing the industry. Hillier also worked as chief of staff to the Ontario Attorney General, under Doug Downey’s stint, and he was involved with the establishment of the iGaming market as we know it today.

“A big thank you to my colleagues at the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario and CEO & Registrar Karin Schnarr.  I look forward to deepening the ongoing partnership between AGCO and iGO,” Hillier said on his LinkedIn page, marking his appointment at the helm of the regulator.

Hillier will also seek to address other challenges that are facing the market today, including the introduction of an anti-money laundering system for operators as well as a centralized self-exclusion system meant to improve consumer safeguards.
