New AFC South Champions Living their Best Life
With a win over the Miami Dolphins – combined with the Indianapolis Colts’ loss to the Denver Broncos – the Houston Texans have clinched the AFC South Division title. They’re 9-5 on the season, with three wins in their last four games.
Quarterback C.J. Stroud has been the cornerstone of the Texans’ resurgence. Paired with wide receivers Nico Collins and Stefon Diggs, as well as tight end Dalton Schultz, he’s been doing a great job, getting the much-needed passing TDs for his team. So far, the QB has thrown for 17 touchdowns, five of which happened in his last three games.
The Texans have also been doing okay defensively. With 21.4 points conceded per game, they’re in the Top 10 best defenses of the 2024 NFL.
Can the Chiefs Cope Without Mahomes?
On Sunday afternoon, the Chiefs beat the Cleveland Browns 21-7, covering the spread for the first time after seven games in which they failed to do so. Unfortunately, the injury of their starting quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, ruined post-game celebrations.
He injured his right ankle in the fourth quarter, for which he had to exit the game. The good news is that – according to coach Andy Reid – Mahomes didn’t break his ankle. But the ankle is sore, meaning that it’s unlikely he’ll play on Saturday afternoon.
Another reason why our prediction is that Reid will keep his best player on the bench in Week 16 is that the Chiefs really don’t need him. The thing is that they’ve already won the AFC West Division and are very close to securing the No. 1 seed in the conference.
Houston Texans vs. Kansas City Chiefs Week 16 Prediction
Excluding the 14-point-margin win over the Browns last weekend, the Chiefs haven’t been too impressive over the last couple of weeks. Before that, the last time they defeated someone with a margin of over a touchdown was back in October.
Their scoring average over the last three games is 19.7, suggesting that Mahomes & Co. haven’t been in a great mood for scoring. But the Chiefs’ defense has been excellent. These guys are conceding just 18.5 points on the season, while in their last three, their average was just 13.7.
Knowing all this, we think they’ll keep the Texans to under 20 points on Saturday, and if their runners do okay, they might make the game very interesting.
Pick: Kansas City Chiefs +3
