GamCare Extends Support for Problem Gambling with Night Chat Groups
Multiple studies have shown that the people worst affected by gambling addiction stay up late to play, with limited resources available to them immediately
GamCare, the largest British charity dedicated to aiding problem gamblers and helping them get back to their normal lives, has launched nighttime support group meets, a much-needed expansion of its overall services.
GamCare Strengthens RG Measures with Chat Rooms
The harm-prevention charity has hailed the opportunity to put in place further safeguards that help people seek and get help when they need it the most. New chat rooms will operate every Tuesday between 1 am and 2 am, and clearly, the nighttime service will be running in limited capacity.
The newly introduced chat service wants to serve as a beacon of hope for people who are suffering gambling-related harm and show them that they can open up about their issues in a safe environment.
The rooms will bring together people who already suffer from problem gambling, but they will be moderated by a trained GamCare council. The nighttime format is a group session, similar to the anonymous helplines and groups where people walk in and talk about their issues with abusive substances.
Support Groups Designed to Help Those Who Need It
GamCare is building something similar now for people who find themselves up at night and want to talk with other people who are going through the same thing they are. To participate in the chat rooms, people who wish to attend need to register with their first name and email address.
Any information submitted during the registration team will only be visible to the GamCare team, which follows robust data protection measures to ensure the privacy and safety of any vulnerable individual.
All registrants will be notified about the upcoming meeting and when they can join the chat rooms, which will be accessible through GamCare’s website.
Problem and responsible gambling charities in the UK have been recently building up their team in the hopes of providing an ever-better service to those impacted the worst.
The new support group initiative by GamCare comes at a time when the UK Gambling Commission has warned media outlets and industry stakeholders to be responsible in the way they use information released by the regulator.
In the meantime, GamCare has urged the banking sector to act more decisively in helping protect vulnerable consumers.
