DraftKings CEO Robins Predicts US iGaming Expansion in 2025

Unlike sports betting, which is available in close to 40 US states, online gambling is legal only in seven states. With iGaming available in major markets such as Michigan, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, among others, the legalization of the activity is expected to pick up speed in more states, a recognizable gaming executive predicted recently.

DraftKings’ Boss Is Optimistic About Online Gambling Legalization

Jason Robins, the CEO and co-founder of the recognizable betting and gaming company, DraftKings, outlined that the legalization of online gambling across the country is expected to speed up as early as next year. That’s the executive’s take after participating in a debate during the annual Craig-Hallum Online Gaming Conference this Monday.

Robins spoke about the current year, explaining that as an election year, it was difficult for lawmakers to move bills proposing online gambling legalization. However, the executive added that 2025 would fix that, predicting significant growth for the iGaming sector. According to Robins, lawmakers are likely to revisit iGaming and successfully push legislation in different states that propose the legalization of online gambling. Still, he didn’t go into specifics about certain markets but was overall optimistic about the growth of iGaming in 2025.

“I think 2025 is going to be another huge growth year. 2024 was an election year. It’s hard to get gaming bills done in an election year. But I think this year coming up, 2025, we are going to get some momentum (potentially) get some iGaming bills over the hump,“

The Leading Betting Company Likes the Pressure of Competition

DraftKings’ boss spoke about some of the challenges the company faced during its growth across the United States and pointed to the importance of having strong competition. Focusing on the latter, Robins said that he likes “new, aggressive competition in the market.” In the executive’s words, competition helps DraftKings’ team retain its focus on winning more customers and growing its player base. “We’ve always been a company that has done better when we feel some sort of pressure,” Robins added.

The expansion of sports betting kicked off with the 2018 decision of the US Supreme Court that struck down PASPA. As one of the first betting companies on the US market, DraftKings had the unique advantage of growing significantly. The company leveraged innovative technology and at the same time was able to address weak areas, as described by Robins. This enabled DraftKings to solidify its position as a leader on the market and continue to improve its product and offering.
