Couple from Las Vegas Arrested after Brazen $652K Theft at Primm Casino
The couple is suspected of being involved in the theft of $625,000 in cash and $27,000 in casino chips from Primm Valley Resort and Casino
An elderly couple, suspected of being involved in a brazen robbery from a casino in Primm, Nevada, was recently detained. The couple is suspected of stealing more than $652,000, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports citing data from the Metropolitan Police Department.
The husband, identified with the initials J.S., 63, as well as his wife, identified with the initials L.S., 70, were both arrested Friday. The 70-year-old woman is suspected of jumping “over the counter of the casino cage” at Primm Valley Resort and Casino.
Law enforcement claims that based on CCTV footage, the couple was involved in two separate incidents. One of them was from July 18, while the other one dates back to June 25.
Details regarding the incident from June are scarce and have been redacted from the police report but what’s known is that an elderly couple can be seen walking down a hallway at the casino.
However, there are plenty of details regarding the July 18 incident. Based on surveillance footage, on the day, a woman wearing a sweatshirt with an orange and green picture can be seen jumping over a counter of a casino cage. The woman, suspected of being L.S., allegedly picked a cage that was empty at the time and no teller or security were guarding it.
From this employee-only area, the 70-year-old woman allegedly obtained several bags of money and coins, as well as casino chips. The elderly woman allegedly stole $625,000 in cash, as well as another $27,000 worth of casino chips from the Primm Valley Resort and Casino.
Police Execute Search Warrant, Finds Cash and Casino Chips
An investigation into the criminal activity identified that the 70-year-old woman walked back and forth to a 2011 Nissan hatchback. Allegedly, she needed multiple trips to transport all of the cash and chips from the casino.
In an unfortunate turn of events for the thief, a police officer was on-site at the Primm casino. Law enforcement visited the parking lot where the 2011 Nissan was parked on an unrelated matter. Still, the bodycam worn by the police officer captured part of the car, including its license plate.
After law enforcement searched the license plate, they identified the car belonged to the 63-year-old J.S. Executing a search warrant on the man’s residence on Sugar Bowl Court in Las Vegas, police found a bag with Primm Casino branding that contained chips.
Additionally, law enforcement seized a couple of bags filled with cash and several bags with coins. The search also uncovered a sweatshirt that matched the one worn by the person from the recorded incident.
The total sum of the cash and chips seized from the suspects’ house was $652,000, matching what was missing from the casino. Each of the suspects is currently facing charges of attempted burglary and theft of more than $100,000.
