Chris Moneymaker, an Ongoing Source of Inspiration

Best known for winning the 2003 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event, Chris Moneymaker’s revolutionary experience completely changed the face of the industry.

He was the first person to grab a world champion title after qualifying at an online poker site, proving that anyone can become a poker champion by starting online.

It all started when he won his seat in the Main Event of the 2003 WSOP via an $86 satellite tournament at the PokerStars online poker card room.

With the Main Event title under his belt, he decided to quit his job and become a celebrity spokesman for Series owner Harrah’s Entertainment and PokerStars

He started his own company, Moneymaker Gaming, and initiated his gambling-focused travels, attending a large number of tourneys with buy-ins.

He wrote his autobiography and published it in March 2005. Among his numerous accomplishments following the 2003 win, we can mention second place at the World Poker Tour’s 2004 Shooting Stars event which brought him $200,000 in cash.

He also finished Event 5 of the 2008 World Championship of Online Poker in sixth place for $139,000, and scored fifth position in Event 16, the $215 Pot Limit Omaha with Rebuys, which brought him more than $28,000.

He also won the World Poker Open‘s Deep Stack Pot Limit Omaha event in the summer of 2009 and took home close to $16,000, placed 11th in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event in 2011 that attracted a $130,000 prize, and second at the National Heads Up Poker Tournament against Erik Seidel, which brought him $300,000 during the same year.

The Atlanta, Georgia-born player’s unique accomplishment soon started to be referred to as the “Moneymaker effect” in the press, as it gradually became an undeniable source of inspiration for amateur poker players spread all around the globe.

Turning the Ordinary Into the Extraordinary

The Sunday tourney that will feature a $109 buy-in is meant to enable players to try to turn ordinary experiences into something extraordinary and complete for life-changing rewards every week.

The $300,000 guarantee available on Sundays at 1:05pm ET will be replaced by the boosted $500,000 guarantee on the last Sunday of the month.

First-place winners will scoop up around $45,000 during the $300,000 GTD tourney and take home $75,000 in the $500,000 GTD event.

He also mentioned the recent Moneymaker Vegas Experience where players who managed to win a VIP trip were able to join him in Las Vegas, saying the new tourney will give them the chance to “experience their own ordinary-to-extraordinary moments.”

To qualify for the first Sunday Moneymaker tourney that will feature the supersized $500,000 guarantee, players can qualify via two available Mega Satellites that will take place during the same day at 10:05am ET and offer 50 seats GTD with $11 buy-ins and 75 seats GTD with $22 buy-ins

The tournament will also organize a Mega Satellite a few hours before each new Sunday with qualifications available via freerolls and Micro Hyper Sats (with buy-ins of $1.05, and $2.10).
