A UK school syndicate has won big after scoring a mouth-watering GBP 1 million ($1.34 million) win from EuroMillions. The win, however, left a sour taste in the mouth of a teacher who was never asked to become a syndicate member.
The Teacher’s Anger Left Her with Empty Hands
Lottery syndicates provide lottery enthusiasts with opportunities to win big. By gathering with like-minded people and ensuring regularity and discipline that many lottery players wouldn’t be able to achieve on their own, participants can win some big prizes.
This is exactly what happened to a UK primary school lottery syndicate that won GBP 1 million from EuroMillions, ensuring that each of its 25 members got a cut of GBP 40K (approximately $54K).
According to the story, which was originally posted on Reddit, there was a teacher who was not a syndicate member and had never been asked whether she wanted to be a part of the syndicate. Once this came to light, the excluded teacher got angry at her peers.
The syndicate members likely felt at least a little bit guilty as they proposed to give her a cut – even if she wasn’t a member and had not participated in ticket purchases, they agreed to each give her a GBP 1K ($1.34K) cut of their own shares. However, as the woman continued to rant about it, the rest of the winners decided that it wasn’t worth it and gave her nothing instead.
The teacher in question had therefore effectively barred herself from getting GBP 25K for virtually free.
Other Players Were Luckier Than the Angry Teacher
On a more positive note, a lucky player just won the Irish National Lottery’s EUR 17 million (approximately $20 million) EuroMillions jackpot. At the time of the lottery’s announcement, however, the winner had yet to come forward to claim their prize.
Elsewhere, a Michigan Lottery player just won $32.3 million from Lotto 47, which was notably the largest jackpot ever awarded by the lottery’s Lotto 47 game.
In the meantime, both the Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots continued to grow after going unclaimed once again. The latter game’s next drawing is set to take place within 10 hours of this writing.
