Tropicana Announces Implosion and Fireworks Event Date
A spectacular implosion accompanied by fireworks and a drone show is planned for October 9
After shutting its doors early in April, the iconic Las Vegas Strip casino resort, the Tropicana, may implode this autumn. The demolition is expected to take down the Tropicana’s main building, along with the 22-story Paradise Tower in what is expected to be a spectacular event that will also include a drone show and fireworks this October, as announced by FOX5 on Tuesday.
Recognized as a landmark property in Las Vegas, the Tropicana initially opened its doors to visitors back on April 4, 1957. After operating for nearly seven decades, the iconic gaming and entertainment venue closed its doors on April 2 this year.
Ahead of the closure, the Tropicana scaled down its offering. At the same time, Bally’s helped affected workers find new employment. Earlier this year, the gaming and entertainment operator confirmed that between 70% and 80% of the workers are expected to find new roles.
The closure and expected implosion are a part of the plan that will completely revamp the Tropicana site. The location will be used for the creation of a new baseball stadium, home of the famous Major League Baseball team, Oakland Athletics. The price tag of the new stadium is a staggering $1.5 billion.
Implosion Planned for October 9
Earlier this year, Bally’s reaffirmed its intention to implode Tropicana by the end of 2024. According to the local media outlet’s latest report, the implosion is expected to take place on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 2:30 AM.
Besides imploding the buildings, the demolition event is expected to bring a spectacular drone show and fireworks from Grucci. The removal of the Paradise Tower together with the 22-story Tropicana marks an important part of the plan that will bring a new baseball stadium to Las Vegas.
Back in April, Clark County issued the required commercial demolition permit for the Tropicana. Bally’s requested to have demolition experts working at the property and preparing the implosion starting from September 30 through October 8.
Although the demolition is planned for October, the permit needs to receive approval in order for the operator to proceed with the implosion. Further relevant approvals are also required in order for the process to be completed.
The last time a hotel imploded in Las Vegas was back in 2016. At the time, the Riviera Hotel was demolished.
