People Who Won $167.3M Powerball Jackpot Claim It
While some people like to sit on their good fortune for a while before claiming a multi-million lottery ticket, this was not the case with Kentucky’s largest jackpot winners to date

The mother and son behind the recent $167.3 million Powerball jackpot win in Kentucky have stepped forward to claim their winnings, only two days after the win was announced. The winners showed up at the Kentucky Lottery headquarters in Louisville to show their ticket and undergo a quick verification process.
Kentucky Jackpot Winners to Celebrate the Best Mother’s Day
Following this, the ticket holder, identified as Linda Grizzle, revealed that it was an achievement scored with her son, Shannon Farthing, who purchased the ticket but left it at his mother’s, who found out about the win. The mother-son duo has verified they are the original winners of the life-altering amount, mere days after they were announced as the winners.
Grizzle spoke to the Lottery and joked that it would be a good Mother’s Day, saying that the win would allow her to first pay off her debt. The mother was excited to find out that she had won, after a friend tipped her that the jackpot had been won by a ticket bought in Georgetown.
She checked her ticket to see that it was indeed the winning ticket and called her son, who assured his mother over the phone that if the numbers matched the winning numbers, they had “at least won something.” The winning numbers for the draw – 1, 12, 14, 18, and 69 – and the Powerball number 2 on Saturday, April 26, 2025, were an exact match with the numbers Grizzle and Farthing had filled out in their ticket.
Upon closer examination by the pair, they realized that they had become millionaires. Although it was Farthing who had bought the $2 ticket from Clark’s Pump-N-Shop on Connector Road in Georgetown, the mother and son duo had been playing the lottery as a team.
Annuity Versus Lump Sum Payment – Winners Have 60 Days to Decide
This is the largest recorded jackpot win in the history of the Kentucky Lottery and the Powerball in the state. Lottery president and CEO Mary Harville was similarly pleased with the achievement and commented:
“And not just any Powerball jackpot prize, it is a record for Kentucky. It is $167.3 million — so exciting! So exciting for the winner because the winner has won $167.3 million, but also for the retailer.”

As to what comes next, Farthing and Grizzle now have 60 days to decide how they wish to claim their money – the annuity options would see them get an early start on their prize and pay lower tax, but not be able to access the full amount.
Most people don’t bother with the annuity option, Harville explained. If the duo chooses to claim their winnings in one lump sum, it will reduce the prize to about $77 million.
