Many believe that winning the lottery is something that people can only experience once, if ever. However, one couple from New Jersey has proven those naysayers wrong by winning its second jackpot in six months.
Lightning Strikes Twice
According to the New Jersey Lottery’s announcement, the anonymous couple won their first big prize on April 1. While everyone knows what this date is associated with, the $1 million prize they secured from the $1,000,000 Ultimate Spectacular scratch-off game was nothing to laugh at.
However, the couple’s win didn’t mean they stopped playing the lottery. On the contrary, the two continued playing, only to win $3 million from a Jackpot Millions scratch-off ticket less than six months after their initial win. The winning ticket was sold at Fischer Bay Exxon, 826 Fischer Boulevard, Toms River, in Ocean County.
According to lottery officials, the odds of winning both games are roughly 1 in 2 trillion. The lottery joked that statistics show a person is 1.2 million times more likely to be hit by a meteorite.
The Lucky Winners Play Regularly
The winners were described as a couple with two children and a third on the way. With an extra $3 million in their pocket, the fortunate parents are sure to have some of the financial stress associated with having a big family relieved.
The husband noted that scratch-off tickets are a usual hobby for him and his partner.
With our kids, we can’t really get out of the house. So at the beginning of the month, we get some tickets. When the kids go to bed, we scratch a few off. We like to make it a bit of a competition – who can win the most. It seems we at least always break even.

The wife admitted that she was so surprised that she held the winning ticket to her chest and screamed.
James Carey, the director of the New Jersey Lottery, congratulated the family on their repeated win.
I’ve always said that you only need one ticket to win big. But I guess, in this case two tickets certainly didn’t hurt! This is just pure blind luck.

The lottery added that the couple weren’t the only big recent winners. On November 10, a player in Camden County won a $500,000 top prize from Lion’s Share. Four days later, a Crossword Xtreme player in Essex County won $600,000.
