His twin brother, Markieff Morris, addressed the incident on social media, calling the whole situation “crazy”

NBA veteran Marcus Morris, 35, was arrested Sunday on a fraud charge, according to Broward County booking records. The arrest reportedly took place at an airport and was related to an “insufficient funds check,” as stated in the arrest details. Morris’ agent, Yony Noy, stated that the former NBA star was taken into custody due to an unpaid debt owed to a casino.

Morris Arrested at Airport

According to the reports, Morris was taken into custody at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on a felony charge of writing a check with insufficient funds. He was held without bond at the Broward County Main Jail, with an extradition hearing scheduled for Monday, as listed on the county’s Clerk of Courts website.

Morris spent 11 seasons in the NBA, including a four-year stint with the Los Angeles Clippers from 2019 to 2023. Over his career, he also played for the Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons, Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets, and New York Knicks. Most recently, he suited up for the Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2023–24 season.

Family and Friends Respond to the News

While Marcus Morris has yet to make a public statement regarding his arrest, his twin brother, Markieff Morris, addressed the incident on the social media platform X. In a strongly worded post, Markieff confirmed the arrest but criticized the fraud charge, calling the situation “crazy.”

“The wording is crazy,” Markieff wrote. “Damn for that amount of money they’ll embarrass you in the airport with your family. […] All I can say is Lesson learned. Bro will tell y’all tomorrow.”

Marcus Morris’ agent, Yony Noy, responded to Markieff Morris’ post on social media, aiming to clarify the circumstances surrounding the arrest. Noy emphasized that the incident was not related to a fake check, as some reports suggested. Instead, he stated that Morris was taken into custody over an unpaid casino credit. Noy described the arrest as “absolute insanity.”

“Just so everyone understands this is zero fraud here or whatever crap outlets have said regarding fake checks or whatever the hell,” Noy wrote on X. “This is due to an outstanding marker with a casino. Apparently if you have over $1,200 they can issue a warrant for your arrest. Absolute insanity!”
