Man Shot Dead by Authorities After Pulling Out a Gun in Casino Parking Lot

A man has been shot dead after pulling out a gun when approached by officials. This happened in the parking lot of WinStar Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma.

The Victim Is Said to Have Threatened Officers with a Gun

On March 19, the Chickasaw Lighthorse Police Department was tipped off about a suicidal person on the premises of the WinStar Casino property. In its official report, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) identified the individual as the 41-year-old Kevin Odom.

Police officers were immediately dispatched to the scene. They located the man at approximately 1:45 pm in the casino’s parking lot. Officers tried to reach out to the reportedly suicidal man, only for him to pull out a firearm.

An officer then opened fire on Odom. The latter was wounded and later passed away on the scene. According to the OSBI’s report, no one else was hurt in the operation.

The investigation is still ongoing and is jointly run by the OSBI in collaboration with the Chickasaw Lighthorse Police Department, WinStar Casino, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The Love County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement on the matter, confirming the shooting and reassuring locals that there is no threat to the public.

I am assured by Chief Palmer of the Chickasaw Lighthorse Police that there is no ongoing threat to the public. Any further inquiries should be directed to the Chickasaw Lighthorse Police as they are leading the investigation in unison with the OSBI.

Unfortunately, this is not the first instance of a shooting taking place in the vicinity of a casino property in 2026.

Last month, a fatal shooting happened just outside Bally’s Kansas City Casino, leaving an 18-year-old person dead. This came as a result of a reported clash involving multiple people that started inside the casino.

A few days later, a mother visiting Las Vegas for a dance competition shot her daughter dead and then took her own life.
