Malik Beasley Evicted Amid FBI Gambling Investigation
Malik Beasley has been evicted from his Detroit apartment after failing to pay rent in light of the ongoing probe into his alleged gambling activity

Former Detroit Pistons guard Malik Beasley is facing even more off-court trouble. According to reports surfaced at the start of the month, the 28-year-old has been evicted from his apartment.
The timing further adds to what’s already been a difficult stretch for Beasley, who is dealing with alleged financial issues and an FBI probe into alleged gambling on NBA games and prop bets, according to The Detroit News.
Over $20,000 Owned in Back Rent
Beasley had been renting at The Stott, a 38-story high-rise apartment building featuring studios and apartments offering stunning city views and state-of-the-art amenities. The downtown building belongs to Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert’s real estate portfolio.
Court records show his landlord has taken him to court twice this year, claiming he failed to pay a total of $21,500 in rent.
In the most recent case, Beasley was sued for $7,355. After he didn’t respond, a default judgment was entered against him. That case remains open, the paper noted.
It’s another blow in what has become a difficult offseason for the veteran guard. Just a few months ago, Beasley was reportedly in discussions on a three-year, $42 million deal to stay with Detroit after a productive season. However, those talks stalled once news broke in June of a federal probe into suspicious betting activity linked to games he played in during his stint with the Milwaukee Bucks.
At least one sportsbook flagged “unusual heavy betting interest” on Beasley’s player props during the 2023-24 campaign, according to ESPN. His lawyer, Steve Haney, emphasized that nothing has been proven.
“Malik is afforded the same right of the presumption of innocence as anyone else under the U.S. Constitution. As of now he has not been charged with anything.”
The investigation has also put Beasley’s financial situation into the spotlight. Hazan Sports Mangement Group, his former marketing agency, claims he defaulted on a $650,000 advance, while The Detroit News detailed several smaller debts to a barber, dentist, lender, and his landlord.
“I’m Ready to Prove Again I Belong in This League”
Despite the headlines, Beasley has made clear he still sees himself as an NBA player. In a series of Snapchat posts, he pushed back on the criticism.
“People were saying some crazy things in the media, people judging me. I’ll tell you one thing I have a chip on my shoulder I’m ready to destroy anyone in front of me, I’m ready to prove again I belong in this league.”
The Atlanta-born, who inked a one-year, $6 million deal with the Pistons last season, averaged 16.3 points per game and finished as runner-up for Sixth Man of the Year.
Whether he will find a roster spot this fall remains to be seen as the gambling probe continues to unfold.
