Limited Edition AU$62,000 Whisky Bottle Worth Stolen from Casino
A rare whisky bottle worth $62,000 has been stolen from a boutique liquor store in Southbank, Melbourne by a man who allegedly posed as a potential buyer then hid the bottle in his pants and left the premises
Fidels The Cellar, a liquor store and hairdresser salon in the Crown Casino complex located in Southbank, Melbourne, has apparently been the scene of an alleged robbery last May.
According to police reports, on May 22, a man who was pretending to be interested in buying something from the boutique liquor store allegedly left the premises with a very rare bottle of whiskey in his shorts.
Namely, the suspect allegedly took off with a 48-year-old bottle of limited edition Johnnie Walker Masters of Flavour valued at a whopping AU$62,000 ($41,300).
The incident occurred at 5.20pm, when the man, according to the same police report, entered the liquor store and hairdresser salon and started engaging in a conversation with one of the staff members.
The staff member’s statement said the man seemed to be interested in a number of bottles.
As the woman turned her back for a brief moment, police say the suspect took the very expensive bottle of whiskey from the shelf, placed it in shorts, and quickly exited the store.
Only 288 Bottles Worldwide
According to Johnnie Walker’s parent company Diageo, the liquor is very rare, with just 288 bottles having been released worldwide.
The CCTV footage taken from the liquor store has been released to the public. The images show a man that police think could be able to help them with the investigation.
The police have urged anyone who has information regarding the incident to get in touch with Crime Stoppers or submit a report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
