GeoComply Slashes Workforce by 15% as Streamlining Operations a Priority

The groundbreaking tech company that provides geolocation services and insight into regulated betting markets has set out on an optimization path

GeoComply, a leader in delivering geolocation services and fencing for regulated iGaming operators, is reportedly streamlining its operations, as originally reported by Sportico, with the company cutting 15% of its 450-strong global workforce.

GeoComply to Drop 15% of Its Workforce

GeoComply is optimizing its current operations to spur future growth, with offices in three countries: the United States, Canada, and Poland. The report does not contain much further information about the details of the decision, the timeline it will be based on, or which specific jobs within the company would be most impacted.

GeoComply has quickly gained a reputation for delivering high-end solutions for the iGaming sector and has often helped influence legislative outcomes by convincing lawmakers that its solutions are fully capable of preventing fraud and unauthorized connections.

The main fraud that the company addresses, among others, is to ensure that it deploys powerful geofencing that guarantees that only people within a certain jurisdiction may connect to a given iGaming operator, which is crucial for compliance and sustainable operations for businesses in the sector.

The company is also helping private stakeholders to detect fraudulent activity such as fake accounts or bonus abuses, and at the same time, provides impactful data about gambling activity within specific jurisdictions.

GeoComply’s tools are already making an impact with a number of high-profile operators, including FanDuel, BetMGM, and DraftKings, among others, and the company has been successfully gaining market traction, mostly staving off challenges from competitors.

Staying Ahead of the Curve Requires Sacrifices

However, Xpoint has quickly emerged as a worthy rival, defeating GeoComply in court over a claim that the former infringed on a patent related to geolocation technology, which a judge shot down in 2023, arguing that the patent was too broad and not enforceable.

The latest reduction in headcount should allow Geocomply to stay ahead of the rapid changes in the tech sector. While not saying explicitly, this may have to do with artificial intelligence and automation.

Despite the workforce slashing, GeoComply is unlikely to lose its leading position in the sector it caters to any time soon, and not ahead of Alberta, Canada’s imminent regulated gambling industry launch.
