Genting Presents NYC Casino Plans as License Race Rages on

Genting hopes to add some 6,000 slots and 800 gaming tables to its 500,000 square feet of gaming space

Genting New York, the US-based subsidiary of Genting Malaysia, has presented its casino plan to the Community Advisory Committee (CAC). This comes as the fight for the three downstate casino licenses continues.

Genting Outlines an Ambitious RWNYC Expansion

Genting’s vision includes an expansion of Resorts World New York City (RWNYC), which, if enacted, would turn the property into the largest integrated casino resort in the state. The company’s official proposal presents ambitious plans to add luxurious facilities and the largest casino area out of all casino proposals so far.

Another highlight of Genting’s proposal is its optimistic timeline. According to the company, it would be able to complete the new facilities within a year and open the expanded property by July 2026. This forecast, however, depends on Genting securing all necessary regulatory approvals for the new facilities and beginning construction on the day it is granted a license.

As part of its bid for the NYC license, Genting has also teamed up with Cirrus Workforce Housing to construct up to 50,000 workforce housing units across NYC. In addition to that, Genting will invest $50 million in its new Resorts World Innovation Campus.

The RWNYC Casino Will Be the Largest in the US

If Genting’s casino plans receive the go-ahead, the company will invest some $5.5 million in turning RWNYC into a premium integrated resort. In addition to the electronic gaming machines currently offered at the property, Genting hopes to add some 6,000 slots and 800 gaming tables to its 500,000 square feet of gaming space. On top of that, the casino would support some 10,800 jobs.

In addition to casino machines and tables, the expanded resort will have 2,000 hotel rooms, some 7,000 parking spaces and dozens of shops and restaurants. Other leisure facilities include greenspace, a spa, and a 7,000-seat arena.

Genting Promises to Do More for the Community

Robert DeSalvio, president of Genting Americas East, said that the latest proposal aligns with the company’s long commitment to the Queens community. The company, which has operated in the area for almost 15 years, firmly believes that its transformative project would be a game-changer not only for RWNYC, but the entire area, the city, and the state as a whole.

Since Resorts World was granted operations of the Aqueduct site in 2010, we have sought to be a neighbor that Queens deserves, providing 1,000 good union jobs, invested millions of dollars into our neighbors and built everlasting bonds with the community.

DeSalvio added that the latest proposal exemplifies the company’s promise to do more for the community.
