FanDuel Replaces GambetDC as Washington DC’s Sportsbook
FanDuel’s foray into the District of Columbia comes in the wake of GambetDC’s failure to impress local players

Washington DC’s Office of Lottery and Gaming (OLG) has officially crowned FanDuel as the state’s new sports betting operator. Players in the state can now try out the operator’s new cutting-edge sportsbook app and enjoy enhanced wagering experiences.
On April 15, FanDuel officially launched in the US capital, marking a new era for sports betting in the state. FanDuel will be available to all eligible customers outside of federal land. This means that players would not be able to play at the National Mall, White House, Capitol and Congressional office buildings, as well as at East Potomac Park and Rock Creek Park.
FanDuel’s foray into the District of Columbia comes in the wake of GambetDC’s failure to impress local players. The previous online betting monopoly was uncompetitive and even forced some players to go wager in neighboring states.
As a result, the OLG opted to designate FanDuel as the new provider of wagering in the state, hoping to capitalize on the operator’s leading position in the United States. GambetDC retail terminals will be phased out and replaced by FanDuel machines.
OLG Is Optimistic about FanDuel’s Launch
According to Frank Suarez, executive director of the OLG, players now have access to a best-in-class sports wagering platform. He welcomed FanDuel’s entry into Washington DC, saying that it would completely change local players’ perception of wagering.
FanDuel’s entry into our market brings not only a reliable, customer-friendly sports wagering experience to the nation’s capital, but it also includes guaranteed revenue that will be used to fund vital city programs.

Suarez previously said that FanDuel’s foray into the District of Columbia is set to maximize state revenue while also delivering best-in-class experiences for 18+ residents.
FanDuel has promised to generate as much as $119 million in taxes within five years, including a $5 million conversion fee to the General Fund. Additionally, the operator is set to spend between $2 million and $4 million on operating expenses.
FanDuel is already a successful company in multiple states, including the neighboring Maryland where it commands a respectable 50% market share.
In the meantime, FanDuel is eyeing opportunities in Nevada. Despite being one of the biggest gambling companies in the US, the operator has yet to establish a presence in the gambling capital of the world.
