Edmonton Oilers Going for Their 9th Western Conference Crown
The Oilers made their way to the 2025 Western Conference Final after knocking out the Los Angeles Kings and the Vegas Golden Knights out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. They defeated the LA team 4-2 in the series.
Then, they won the series with Vegas 4:1, suggesting that their form is on the rise. Their defensive form sure is. The evidence of this is that in each of their last two games, they shut out the Golden Knights. Stuart Skinner was fantastic in both of those games, shushing his critics who thought he’s no good replacement for Calvin Pickard who’s out with an injury.

The Oilers have been doing great defensively, but their offense remains their strongest weapon. No surprise there as on their roster, they have forwards like Zach Hyman, Connor McDavid, and Leon Draisaitl, who was the highest-scoring player in the 2024-25 NHL regular season.
They’ve been great in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs as well, but not as good as Dallas’ Finnish forward Mikko Rantanen. This is the guy they should fear the most in the Oilers vs. Stars Game 1.
Can Mikko Rantanen & Co. Capitalize on Their Great Form?
Mikko Rantanen has been incredible since the start of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs. He’s got 19 points to his name, from 9 goals and 10 assists. He did well in the series with the Winnipeg Jets, but the crucial factor for winning 4-2 was Dallas’ great defense.
They did lose the fifth game of the series 4:0, but in the following match, they won 2:1 after overtime. Defenseman Thomas Harley was the one who scored the game-winning goal, but he also did fine at the back.

His colleague from the defense Miro Heiskanen was also great in that game, and so was the goalie, Jake Oettinger. He’s actually been fantastic throughout the season, maintaining a .920 save percentage and a goals-against average under 2.50.
The win in Game 6 was their sixth straight home win, which is great news ahead of the first game with the Oilers, which is played in Dallas. Another reason why they should feel optimistic is that they won three of the last five Oilers vs. Stars games played at American Airlines Center.
Edmonton Oilers vs. Dallas Stars Game 1 Prediction
We expect to see a high-scoring affair on May 21, with both teams’ offensive talents on full display. Still, we predict it’s Dallas that will score more goals given the Stars’ form and the fact that Game 1 is played on their turf. Plus, they have an ace up their sleeve in Mikko Rantanen, who we predict will score at least once.
