Christopher Hebert Becomes LGCB’s First African American Chairman
He is no stranger to gaming regulation and has served as director of the Gaming Division for eight years now

The Louisiana Gaming Control Board (LGCB) has welcomed Christopher Hebert as its new chairman. Appointed by Governor Jeff Landry, Hebert is a long-time state assistant attorney general whose experience makes him a perfect successor to Ronnie Johns.
Johns, for context, is set to retire on June 30, following almost four decades of public service.
Herbert, meanwhile, will notably be the first African American to serve as chair of the LGCB. In this position, he sits at the top of the regulatory body and will be responsible for regulating gambling activities in the state.
He is no stranger to gaming regulation and has served as director of the Gaming Division for eight years now. Furthermore, the chair appointee and the Attorney General’s Office were also involved in the 2022 sports betting regulations when Louisiana was preparing for its market launch.
Herbert is also aware of the complex intricacies of the gambling sector and has also played a key role in the creation of the Problem Gambling Resource Services program – a joint venture of the Louisiana Department of Justice and government health departments.
A graduate of the Louisiana State University, Herbert also boasts a law degree from Southern University Law Center. His previous experiences include time as chief of the Litigation and Adjudications sections.
In addition to his new position, Herbert is a board member of the Louisiana Bar Foundation. He is also a House of Delegates member for the Louisiana State Bar Association.
Herbert Is Humbled and Honored to Join the LGCB as Chair
Herbert commented on his new appointment, expressing excitement about the opportunity to serve the Louisiana Gaming Control Board. He was also both “humbled and honored” to be selected by Gov. Landry as the first African-American chair of the regulatory body. He vowed to work hard and continue the legacy of the previous chairmen, protecting the regulated industry from fraud and corruption.
In his statement, the appointee emphasized the need for proper regulation. He pointed out that reliable regulation is crucial considering the importance of gambling revenue to the Louisiana economy.
Herbert promised that the Louisiana Gaming Control Board would continue to regulate gambling fairly, ensuring that licensed gambling operators are allowed to operate healthily and generate healthy revenue for the state.
We will continue to regulate in a fair manner which ensures that our gaming licensees are able to operate in an environment that generates healthy revenue for the state through economic development.
