Bookmakers Favor Kelly, Shapiro as Kamala Harris’ VP Running Mate
Ahead of the expected nomination of Kamala Harris for the Democrat's presidential nominee, odds for Mark Kelly and Josh Shapiro as VP stand strong

Recently, President Joe Biden confirmed his plans to withdraw from the presidential race. The decision, which was announced on July 21, immediately increased the chances of Vice-President Kamala Harris for becoming the Democratic nominee and winning the elections.
Odds via BetOnline at the time of writing still recognize former President Donald Trump as the favorite to win the upcoming presidential elections with -175 odds. However, Harris’ odds position her far from the other candidates. BetOnline’s odds for Harris winning the election recognize her as an underdog with +150 odds.
Considering the major change with Biden’s exit from the upcoming presidential race, the shift in the betting landscape doesn’t come as a surprise. Still, it’s too early to say who the winner may be, especially considering that Harris needs to be nominated by the Democrats prior to running for president. With that in mind, unless anything changes in the upcoming two weeks, it is highly likely for Harris to be the choice of the party for presidential nominee.
Mark Kelly, Josh Shapiro Have Best Odds for VP Nomination
With the chances of Harris running for president increasing, it is also interesting who would be the vice president nomination of the Democrats. In light of the withdrawal of Biden and the potential nomination of Harris as presidential nominee, the chances of Mark Kelly increased.
According to the popular betting exchange that offers purchasing of shares in a similar fashion to stocks, PredictIt, Kelly’s chances for VP nomination are the best at $0.38, while Josh Shapiro follows closely with $0.28.
PredictIt placed Roy Cooper next in line with $0.13, while Andy Beshear’s chances are 2% lower at $0.11. Besher is followed closely by Pete Buttigieg with $0.08.
Per PredictIt data, Trump still leads in the presidential race with 56%, while the price for Harris is $0.44 or 44%. Still, Biden’s exit did help boost Harris, considering that her chances earlier this month stood at 23%.
BetOnline also offers markets for a Democratic VP nominee. Currently, Kelly has the best odds at +135, followed closely by Shapiro with +285. The sportsbook positioned Cooper next with +500 odds, followed by Buttigieg with +900. Beshear’s odds for a Democratic VP nominee at BetOnline stand at +1,200.
