BetMGM Reveals Most Bet NBA and NHL Teams and Players for 2025

While the top NHL teams were all in the most-bet category, the same cannot be said for the top bet NBL players, as only one of them reached the finals

A Russian-born and a Canadian-born players held the titles of most bet on players in the NHL and NBA, respectively, for the 2025 season, according to BetMGM.

BetMGM Unveils Most Bet On NHL Teams and Players

The Winnipeg Jets, Washington Capitals, Vegas Golden Knights, and Toronto Maple Leafs finished the regular season with the highest point totals in the NHL. However, a reordered version of the same four teams recorded the highest share of tickets at the BetMGM sportsbook throughout the regular season.

When it comes to bets, the Golden Knights led the way, followed by the Jets, Maple Leafs, and Capitals. According to BetMGM, this is a clear reflection of bettors backing the league’s top-performing teams. However, there were two notable exceptions: the Los Angeles Kings and Tampa Bay Lightning. Despite both finishing with over 100 points, neither team cracked the top 10 in ticket count or handle. Additionally, no players from either team appeared in the top 10 for prop bet tickets or handle.

Meanwhile, regarding the most bet players in the NHL, Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals was the most heavily bet NHL player, accounting for 1.91% of all tickets and 2.22% of the handle. In contrast, Connor McDavid ranked a distant ninth, with 1.37% of tickets and 1.64% of the handle. Ovechkin’s popularity likely comes as no surprise, given the media spotlight on his pursuit and eventual surpassing of Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goal record of 894.

Heres What BetMGM Announced Regarding NBA Players and Teams

Regarding NBA players, the results seem a bit more interesting, as only one of the five most-bet players reached the finals. That player was Toronto native Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who ranked fifth in player prop tickets with 1.55%. Notably, no other player with a ticket share above 1.5% or a handle share above 1.3% appeared in the NBA Conference Finals. He was named NBA MVP in May, so perhaps the outcome when it comes to betting should not be a surprise.

When it comes to which teams are the most bet on, according to BetMGM’s statistics, the Los Angeles Lakers led everyone else in both handle share (6.19%) and ticket share (5.84%) during the regular season. They were followed by the Boston Celtics, with 5.80% of tickets and 5.60% of the handle, and the Cleveland Cavaliers, who drew 5.58% of tickets and 4.88% of the handle.
