33% of Canadians Would Criticize Family, Friends for Traveling to the US

Canadians may be some of the friendliest people in the world, but they are having a hard time justifying travel to the United States, according to a new study

Most Canadians know – not every American is an insult-spitting bigot, but this does not mean they should be cut slack either. After all, they put the man in the White House. This is essentially the conclusion of a new Abacus poll, which has indicated that at least 33% of Canadians would take issue, or in real terms, “think less” of friends and family who travel to the country’s southern neighbor.

Canadians Increasingly Likely to Spite Their Own for Holiday-making in the US

Such animosity between the countries is new, and mostly the courtesy of a tribalistic White House administration under President Donald Trump and a coterie of sycophantic insiders who entertain POTUS’ every whim.

The upshot is that nearly 50% of Canadians aged 18-29 agree that traveling to the United States for a holiday is a reason for social ostracism and criticism. Older Canadians tend to be more composed, with the age groups from 30-44 and 45-59, not going so far, but still expressing disagreement.

The survey included 1,850 respondents and was conducted from January 9 through January 14. While President Trump’s increasingly outlandish remarks have been taken as just that – ill-calculated jests of a deranged mind, many are beginning to worry about the possibility of the United States becoming the enfant terrible in the collective West’s backyard.

President Trump recently sent a letter to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, taking personal offense at the man for not granting him the Nobel Peace Prize. Trump has also fulminated against the Danes, slapping tariffs on eight countries that backed Denmark and Greenland’s right to self-govern and choose its own geopolitical future.

President Trump Continues to Damage Relationships with Canada

Canadian newspapers have even run stories about a potential invasion by the United States and how the country would respond.

All of this has spilt over to the tourist sector, with Canadian travel agencies seeing a steady and continued drop in people traveling to the United States for the holidays, and many even seeing it as an act of betrayal.

This has naturally also led to a drop in visitors in Canada, with Air Canada reporting a 40% year-over-year drop in November alone, with similar declines borne by other airlines ferrying tourists and travelers between the countries.

In the meantime, trips to the US continue to decline for Canadians, who are increasingly patriotic and doubling down on their boycott of their southern neighbor.
