World Series of Poker Circuit to Hold Tournament in Uruguay
Scheduled for May 18–25, 2026, the event will take place at the iconic Casino Carrasco in Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay, attracting top poker players from across the region and around the world. The WSOP Circuit stop in Montevideo represents a major milestone for the Latin American poker scene, bringing the region back into the global spotlight. The series will include 12 official gold ring events, complemented by a packed schedule of side tournaments, exclusive VIP experiences, and extensive international media coverage.
Set against a picturesque riverside backdrop, Casino Carrasco offers world-class amenities, making it the perfect venue for what is shaping up to be one of the year’s most thrilling poker events. Juan Carreño, head of Spanish LatAm at GGPoker, highlighted that the event offers players across Latin America a rare opportunity to participate in a top-tier poker experience in a premier destination.
Over the past years, WSOP has grown in popularity a lot, and with that also came the growth of the prize pool. Just a few months ago, WSOP featured a $60 million prize pool – the largest it has ever had in history.
What’s the Significance of the Event Being Held in Montevideo?
Montevideo’s rich mix of culture, history, and coastal charm makes it an appealing destination for both poker players and fans. Paired with the elegant surroundings of Casino Carrasco, the event promises not just high-level competition but also a memorable travel experience.
The return of the WSOP Circuit to Latin America also highlights the region’s rising prominence in the global poker scene. Interest in both online and live poker has been growing across the continent, fueled by expanding platforms and a steady influx of international events.
GGPoker has also rolled out a full schedule of online satellite tournaments running from March 30 to May 10, 2026, to broaden access to the event. These qualifiers give players the chance to win entry into the live event at a much lower cost, with a range of buy-ins and formats tailored to suit all skill levels.
By staging the tournament in Uruguay and offering accessible online qualifiers, GGPoker is helping bridge the gap between virtual and live play, enabling more players to transition from online tables to major international competitions. Speaking of even more players being able to join, last autumn, GGPoker launched the Olive Branch Initiative, which allowed previously banned players to apply for reinstatement, meaning they might now participate in the upcoming event.
