Woman Who Spiked Casino Patron’s Drink to Rob Him to Face Murder Charges
A 34-year-old woman has been brought on murder charges in Clark County, Washington, after she spiked a man’s drink in an ill-fated attempt to rob him
A man is dead after a woman spiked his drink in an attempt to rob him, which has gone awry. Raylin Marie Benzie was seen at the ilani Casino Hotel Resort in Ridgefield, where she approached a man, aged 38, and identified only as Arslan.
Video tapes showed Benzie and Arslan leave the gaming floor and head to the 10th floor, where the man had a hotel room. The pair is said to have spent about two hours inside before Benzi left on her own. She returned with another, unidentified man and entered the hotel room for another 10 minutes.
Woman Spiked Man’s Drink with the Wrong Drug
By that time, Arslan had already been drugged and possibly dead. Housekeeping found the man helpless on the floor and notified police immediately, with an investigation ensuing. Arslan was pronounced dead shortly after, however.
Benzie was identified as the woman to accompany the victim to the hotel room and to later bring the other man in. The woman said that she had not played a part in his death and was none the wiser that he had passed away, or that there were drugs in his system – specifically fentanyl.
Benzie said that Arslan asked her to have sex with him in exchange for $1,200. She then said that the man had offended her and that she had left the room. However, police were able to obtain telecommunication records showing that Benzie had inadvertently admitted that something fishy was going on.
She texted a friend that she had done something “stupid” that could see her “put away for a very long time.” The second man was also later identified and brought in for questioning. He did not defend Benzie, however, arguing that she had intended to use a date rape drug, but, figuring out she was out of it, she switched to fentanyl, which proved fatal.
Benzie Was Aware of Her Action, Further Testimony Shows
Benzie admitted to her friend that the man had “probably overdosed” and “was going to die.” Benzie has been released on bail and awaits trial. She is also charged with first-degree murder, controlled substances homicide, as well as first-degree robbery, second-degree theft, and poisoning.
Benzie is not a first-time criminal either. Her name is all over police records, and she has been in and out of courts for at least 15 years. Benzie is, in all likelihood, going to spend a long time behind bars, possibly a lifetime, if convicted on the murder charge.
