West Virginia Bolsters RG Efforts with New Digital Tool

West Virginia and the Problem Gambling Help Network of West Virginia, which operates the 1-800-GAMBLER helpline, have launched a new digital tool that is aimed at aiding people who may be at risk of or already experiencing gambling-related harm or addiction.

New App Seeks to Help Gambling Addicts in West Virginia

The new tool has been launched with CHESS Health, and it is a customized version of the Connections app, which seeks to aid individuals in their recovery journey by creating awareness of the issue and also recommending the best course of action.

The app has already been used successfully to help overcome substance dependence and abuse, and its new version is further tailored to address the specific needs of people who may be experiencing gambling-related harm instead.

Commenting on the launch of this app, First Choice’s director of communications, Sheila Moran, had this to say:

“We’ve seen how the Connections app helps people recovering from substance use. Now we’re offering similar support for those affected by gambling.”

She was joined by CHESS Health CEO Hans Morefield, who expressed pleasure at seeing this partnership take place, as it represents another step towards enhancing the tools and options available to individuals who may suffer from gambling-related harm in the market.

As to the new Connections app, it has been designed to offer a round-the-clock experience for people who need assistance, with a lot to go on in terms of virtual support meetings, a 24/7 crisis response, daily check-ins and educational content aimed at raising awareness of the issue as well as ways to overcome it.

Connections Takes Lessons from Substance Abuse and Puts Them to RG

The app will accentuate recovery and awareness, as it seeks to offer West Virginian residents a way past addiction. The app will also feature in-person support that will be available, and also connect sufferers in virtual Gamblers Anonymous meetings.

West Virginia is just one of many states to have taken more dedicated efforts towards reducing gambling harm, an issue that has only become worse since the mass launch of the gambling market in the United States.
