Virginia is about to get its fifth casino as Live! Casino Virginia prepares to welcome its first visitors. The state’s latest property will open its doors on January 22, inviting guests to a world of excitement.

Live! Casino Virginia Opens Later This Week

Live! Casino Virginia, the Old Dominion’s fifth commercial land-based casino, is set to open its temporary gaming facility in Petersburg, while the construction of its main property continues. The temporary casino will give visitors a glimpse into the excitement that awaits once its permanent counterpart is finished.

Officials confirmed that the casino will have a game area spanning 75,000 square feet. It will be the home of some 926 slot machines, as well as 32 table games. That’s not all, however, since the temporary casino will also boast a high-roller room where guests can play for some amazing progressive jackpot prizes.

Additional features of the temporary casino include Lucky’s Kitchen, which provides visitors with a place to dine. Parking is free, making the property even more accommodating to visitors.

Live! Casino Virginia has so far created 500 jobs. Both the temporary and permanent properties are expected to be major economic drivers.

In the meantime, the Cordish Companies, which operates the Live! Casino brand, expects to wrap up the construction of the permanent property by the end of 2028. The final venue will have an adjacent hotel and multiple dining options.

Casino Officials Will Contribute $15M to the City

Live! Casino Virginia will celebrate its upcoming opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that will welcome a variety of dignitaries. In addition to that, the property will highlight its commitment to being a major contributor to the local economy by handing a check for $15 million to city officials.

The Cordish Companies’ Live! brand also operates properties in Hanover, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Bossier City. Its latest casino will be Virginia’s fifth casino since the General Assembly approved the establishment of gaming facilities in 2020.

The latest casino’s construction in Petersburg was approved by locals after the city of Richmond rejected plans to construct the property there.

In the meantime, lawmakers continue to discuss the prospects of legalizing online gaming.
