Underdog to Put an End to Its North Carolina Sportsbook
The dominance of some of the best companies around has continued to drag down smaller operators in North Carolina and beyond
Underdog, a sports betting and daily fantasy sports operator, announced that it is preparing to discontinue its North Carolina sportsbook. However, players will still be able to access the gaming company’s fantasy offering.
Underdog to Halt Its NC Betting Business
Underdog informed the relevant authorities that its sportsbook in the Tar Heel State will officially stop accepting wagers on December 16, 2025. The company’s sportsbook will close the next day.
Underdog confirmed that it will settle outstanding wagers on December 16. Any remaining futures bets that remain unsolved will also be paid out, regardless of results.
Underdog’s decision to halt its sports betting operations in North Carolina comes amid continued difficulties smaller sportsbooks have been facing in the state. While smaller operators have struggled to secure market share, regulatory pressures have only mounted.
For reference, North Carolina is the only state where Underdog is currently offering sports betting. Upon ending the operation, Underdog will essentially remain a fantasy sports company.
The Company’s Fantasy Sports Offerings Will Remain Around
Speaking of fantasy sports, players will remain able to access Underdog’s fantasy sports products. Since the company uses a singular app for its sports betting and daily fantasy sports operations, fantasy players will remain able to access the same platform using their existing credentials without having to make any changes.
By focusing on its core fantasy sports business, Underdog will be able to avoid unnecessary costs and difficulties associated with navigating the complex regulatory space while competing with powerhouses such as DraftKings and FanDuel.
The dominance of some of the best companies around has continued to drag down smaller operators in North Carolina and beyond, creating significant discrepancies between the sector’s top-tier companies and smaller players.
Underdog Entered the Prediction Markets Sector
While Underdog is about to end its sports betting operations and focus on its fantasy sports business, that isn’t to say that the company is no longer interested in expanding or exploring new frontiers. The company has expressed interest in the growing event contracts space, despite the continued regulatory pushback against prediction markets.
To that end, Underdog teamed up with Crypto.com Derivatives North America (CDNA), which is already registered with the CFTC.
