UKGC Names Sue Young as Executive Director of Operations

The UKGC noted that Young boasts significant experience from the public sector

The UK Gambling Commission announced that it has added Sue Young as its new executive director of operations. In this position, she will be tasked with responsibility for some of the regulatory body’s operational functions.

The Appointee Will Lead Some of the UKGC’s Operational Functions

On March 16, the UKGC said that Sue Young will join its leadership team as its new executive director of operations. The UK gaming regulator hailed the appointment, highlighting Young’s extensive leadership experience.

According to the UKGC, Young is a former member of HMRC, where she was director of debt management. She also boasts significant experience from the public sector, having held senior roles at the likes of the Home Office, including Border Force and HM Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services and the Department of Health and Social Care.

In her new role, Young will lead some of the UKGC’s operational functions. Her appointment comes amid continued reforms in the British gaming sector and reflects the UKGC’s unwavering commitment to “keep gambling safer, fairer, and crime-free.”

Young commented on her new appointment, expressing excitement about the opportunity to join the UKGC and learn about a new sector. She praised the UKGC’s incredible work in keeping the public safe from gambling harm and vowed to support these efforts.

Sarah Gardner, the UKGC’s acting CEO, welcomed Young on board, expressing confidence in her ability to support the UKGC’s broader efforts to stop illegal gambling and regulate licensed gaming companies.

CEO Rhodes to Depart Soon

In the meantime, the UKGC is preparing to part ways with CEO Andrew Rhodes, who is set to step down on April 30.

A recent SkyNews report seemed to confirm earlier rumors that the next chapter in Rhodes’ career will see him join the commercial gaming sector. The report alleged that the outgoing UKGC CEO is preparing to join Hawkbridge, a fairly new consultancy firm that was launched last month by a team of gaming law experts, including Harris Hagan.
