Can Onama Overcome the Odds Lead Garcia Has?

Onama is clearly put at a disadvantage based on the odds, and Garcia has a slight lead over his opponent. But what does this translate into? Is Garcia a shoo-in? Hardly so. Onama lost to Landwehr in 2022, and he has been on a winning streak ever since.

He has overcome some decent fighters ever since, including Garrett Armfield that same year and before his Landwehr Decision Loss in Round 3. In 2023, he notably took out Gabriel Santos and cleared his way forward through both Roberto Romero and Jonathan Pearce.

So far in 2025, Onama has fought and defeated Giga Chikadze by Decision Win in Round 3, but Garcia is by far his greatest challenger. Garcia notably took out Calvin Kattar by Decision Win in Round 3 earlier this year, and he similarly last lost in 2022 against Hayisaer Maheshate.

Onama definitely has a fighting chance, however. He has the stamina and resilience to stand up to tougher fighters, and he has repeatedly done so already. Onama’s strengths are wearing down his opponent while setting a more tactical fight for himself, whereas Garcia relies more heavily on pressure tactics that may or may not work, depending on the opponent’s ability to defend and counterattack.

Onama the Technician, Garcia the Juggernaut

Essentially, the upcoming Las Vegas bout will be down to how well each player handles themselves. Garcia will rely on applying pressure and wearing down his opponent in the early rounds, landing more free jabs, hooks, and kicks as the fight progresses. While Garcia is hardly looking for a KO, he will be looking to accumulate a fast point advantage given half a chance.

On the flipside, Onama can set a more moderate pace of the fight, while focusing on executing precise and powerful blows that should slow down Garcia’s onslaught. Should he absorb too many hits early on, though, Onama may lose right from the early innings of the fight. Even then, he seems like a great pick for the upcoming bout, given his composure, consistent delivery, and self-possession.

Pick: Onama to Win (+110)
