Two Prizes of a Million Dollars Each Land in Massachusetts

The two players won their prizes from the Massachusetts Lottery's scratch-off games

Two players in Massachusetts have been turned into the state’s latest millionaires after winning prizes of $1 million from the Massachusetts Lottery. Officials reported that both prizes were won on scratch-off tickets.

Greenfield Man Wins $1M from $5,000,000 100X Cashword

The Massachusetts Lottery revealed one of the winners as Keith Poirier. The lucky Greenfield man won his mouth-watering prize from a $5,000,000 100X Cashword ticket that he purchased from Sandri on Federal Street in Greenfield. The shop is eligible to receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

The lottery reported that the man visited a lottery office to claim his prize, opting to receive his money as a one-time lump sum payment of $650,000 before taxes.

In an interview with lottery officials, Poirier said that his plans for the money are to save for his retirement.

It should be noted that the chances of winning $1 million from the $5,000,000 100X Cashword game are 1 in 1,008,000. According to the lottery’s website, this was the first of the ten $1 million prizes the game had at launch, meaning that there are nine more waiting to be won.

$5,000,000 100X Cashword’s top prize, however, is, as the game’s name suggests, $5 million. The game features two such prizes, neither of which has been won yet. The odds of winning one of the $5 million top prizes are 1 in 5,040,000.

Fabulous Fortune Mints Its Ninth Millionaire

In the meantime, a second player won $1 million from the lottery’s Fabulous Fortune game. The player in question purchased their ticket from Route 97 House of Pizza, a pizza parlor in Methuen.

Data from the Massachusetts lottery shows that this was the final second-tier prize of $1 million in the Fabulous Fortune game. At launch, the game featured nine such prizes.

In the meantime, two of Fabulous Fortune’s three top prizes of $4 million still remain. The odds of winning either of them are 1 in 5,040,000.

In other news, the Massachusetts regulator just penalized a few operators over compliance missteps.
