The Star Overhauls Team with Multiple Appointments

Steve McCann, The Star’s group chief executive officer and managing director welcomed the new appointees, saying that they will play a key role in the company’s recovery

The Star Entertainment Group Limited, an Australian gaming giant, has unveiled major changes to its leadership team. The new appointments come amid continued regulatory and financial difficulties for the company.

The Star Introduced Changes to Its Group Leadership

In an ASX filing, The Star announced what it called a “series of executive management and subsidiary director appointments.”

The Star said that the compliance expert Rowena Craze, who joined the team in April 2024, will now serve as the group’s chief risk officer. In her previous position, Craze served as group chief risk officer.

In addition to that, the Australian casino and hospitality giant named the legal heavyweight Patrick McGlinchey as group chief legal officer. Like Craze, McGlinchey joined The Star team in 2024, first serving as interim group chief legal officer. He has now been formally appointed to the role.

In the meantime, business expert Sarah Derry will serve as The Star’s new chief people officer, having secured all regulatory approvals to step into the role. Derry will step into the office on July 1.

The Star also unveiled technology expert Peter Meliniotis as its new group chief information officer. His appointment is effective from June 23 and comes shortly after he joined the company in January.

The Company Made Changes to the Leadership of Two of Its Casinos

According to the company, hospitality industry veteran Jennifer Cronin will now lead its The Star Gold Coast property as its interim chief executive officer. She will remain in this position for a maximum of 12 months, subject to regulatory and ministerial approvals. At the same time, The Star will continue its search for a permanent CEO of the property.

In addition to that, Cronin will serve as a director of The Star Gold Coast, also subject to regulatory and ministerial approvals. If approved, Cronin will serve a three-year term. This appointment is also facilitated by The Star’s continued decentralization efforts.

Speaking of changes to the leadership of its main properties, The Star also designated the experienced Helen Galloway as the independent chair of The Star Sydney. This appointment aligns with the company’s continued decentralization efforts. Galloway’s appointment will be for an initial term of 3 years.
