The Mega Millions Jackpot Hits $800M as Prize Goes Unclaimed

Many misses and a handful of winners across the nation were not enough to put a dent in the Mega Millions grand prize, which has now surpassed $800 million

The Mega Millions continues to fascinate, as the prize failed to deliver during the Halloween holiday festivities and has now reached more than $800 million. Whether the jackpot would drop on Tuesday and how big it would be remains to be seen.

Mega Millions Interest, Jackpot, and Participation Continue to Climb

At $800 million, any cash-out option would put the winner in possession of about $400 million after taxes. However, the jackpot is due to increase once again going forward, as people are still buying tickets and contributing to the grand prize.

In a statement, Mega Millions tried to tease things up and said that there have been 16 jackpots won during November, a traditionally busy one for lotteries, and right ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. The statement read:

“It has been a while since the Mega Millions jackpot was won during November; the last time was in 2016. Since the game began in 2002, though, there have been 16 jackpots won during the month; the largest to date was a $326 million prize won in New York on November 4, 2014.”

The Mega Millions has recently increased its entry price, setting a ticket at $5, but has not seen a loss of interest or momentum, with the jackpots indeed climbing up rapidly and driving more lottery aficionados to at least venture and see how it works out.

Jackpot Winners All Over the Country

The Friday drawing of the Mega Millions saw the winning numbers as 2, 24, 52, 66, 68, and Mega Ball 9, all of which failed to produce a grand winner. All the while, feel-good stories about lottery winners in the United States have not stopped trickling in.

IN Massachusetts, a previous lottery winner who scooped $1,000,000 from the lottery also won eight tickets, fetching him a total of $800,000.
