Sheffield United Hoping to Book an Express Ticket Back to the Prem

The Blades played in the Premier League last season but got relegated after finishing at the very bottom. Their record was horrible – 3 wins, 7 draws, and 28 losses with a score difference of 35:104.

The club owner, Abdullah Bin Mosaad Al Saud (of the Saudi royal family), decided to keep manager Chris Wilder for another season but made some big changes to Sheffield’s roster.

After the last season ended, the Blades sold a number of first-team players, cashing in over $50 million. It seemed as if they’re going to struggle without those guys, but they did very well in the 2024-25 EFL Championship.

The Blades finished in the No. 3 position, which got them the ticket to the Championship Play-Offs. In the first round, we saw them beat Bristol City 3:0 in each of the two games. What’s interesting is that each of those six goals was scored by a different player, showing that Sheffield Utd is a team with plenty of weapons in its arsenal.

Will Sunderland’s EPL Dream Come True After Eight Years?

The last time Sunderland played in the English Premier League was back in the 2016-17 season. They got relegated after finishing bottom. Then, the following season, they got relegated from the Championship as well. It took them three seasons to get back and then another three to get to the Play-Offs.

They finished fourth in the regular season, after which they played against Coventry in the first phase of the Play-Offs. It was a very tense doubleheader for their fans. After winning 2:1 on the road, they lost 1:0 at home in regulation, so the game went to extra time. It was the second minute of the stoppage time when Sunderland’s defender Daniel Ballard scored the winning goal.

Since returning from a hamstring injury, the center-back has been one of Sunderland’s best players. Their goalie Anthony Patterson has also been great, as well as full-back Trai Humme. However, it’s the midfield that’s Sunderland’s strongest weapon in 2025. No surprise there as they’ve got Jude Bellingham’s younger brother Jobe playing in the center.

Sheffield United vs. Sunderland Prediction

The Blades are much sharper in the attack than Sunderland, but the Black Cats are better defensively. Plus, they have a fantastic midfield that can keep the ball far away from their goal.

As the Championship Final is of huge importance for both teams, we think they’ll play cautious soccer, so we don’t expect to see too many goals. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if the game went to extra time after 0:0 or 1:1 in regulation. After that, anything could happen, but if we had to choose one scenario, our pick would be a Sunderland win.
