Sands China Holds Festivities for Its 1.1 Billionth Visitor
The event was attended by Wilfred Wong Ying Wai, executive vice chairman of Sands China, and Grant Chum, chief executive officer and executive director of the company

Sands China, the Macau-facing subsidiary of Las Vegas Sands, announced that it has welcomed its 1.1 billionth guest. The visitor was celebrated by the company and offered a variety of exclusive experiences.
Sands China Celebrates Its 1.1 Billionth Visitor
Since opening its first casino hotel in 2004, Sands China has grown into a local powerhouse. The company now operates Sands Macao, The Plaza Macao, The Londoner Macao (previously Sands Cotai Central), The Parisian Macao, and The Venetian Macau.
The 1.1 billionth guest arrived at The Venetian Macau on Thursday, which coincidentally happened to be the property’s 18th anniversary. The event was attended by Wilfred Wong Ying Wai, executive vice chairman of Sands China, and Grant Chum, chief executive officer and executive director of the company, both of whom were overjoyed by the company’s achievement.
Wong said that surpassing 1.1 billion visitors cemented Sands China as a leader in Macau gaming and also highlighted the region’s rapid economic growth. He was also pleased with the government’s support in developing the tourism sector, the incredible efforts of the hard-working Sands China team, and the solidarity of some 2,500 suppliers.
For context, Sands China employs some 27,000 people. The company has so far invested $16.7 billion in Macau and remains a strong economic driver in the special administrative region.
Netflix to Explore a Darker Side of Macau
While Sands China’s celebration of its 1.1 billionth guest is certainly a joyous occasion, not everything is always so happy in Macau. This fact will be highlighted in Netflix’s upcoming “Ballad of a Small Player,” a psychological thriller exploring the theme of gambling addiction.
The film will feature Colin Farrell, best known for his roles in The Batman (2022), Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016), Miami Vice (2006), Alexander (2004), and Minority Report (2002). In Ballad of a Small Player, Farrell will step into the shoes of Lord Doyle, a man consumed by the thrill of high-stakes play and the dazzling world of Macau’s casinos.
