After ordering breakfast to their room, while staying at the Cosmopolitan, a guest was shocked at the total amount that the food came out to.

The breakfast consisted of Buttermilk scratch pancakes, French toast, and an American breakfast.

The subtotal of everything had come to $89, with the American breakfast costing $40, a little more than the cost of the other items combined.

What really caught people’s attention and had people online outraged were the additional gratuity fees.

An auto-gratuity of $16.02 had been added to the bill, along with that the guest had been charged an additional $10 for a “Traditional Room Service Upgrade.”

Without having been made aware that a tip had already been added, the guest tipped an additional 22 %, adding $19.58 to the total.

A tax fee of $7.45 had also been added.

All in all, the total cost for everything came out to a whopping $142.05.

After seeing the receipt, the guest uploaded the photo of it onto the subreddit “Mildly Infuriating,” wherefrom people originally learned about the situation.

Online Outrage

The original picture, soon after the guest’s post gained traction, spread to other social media platforms where it was seen by many others.

Las Vegas Locally uploaded the picture onto their Facebook page and on their X account, where it blew up even more.

Some of those who saw the picture on X commented on the post, claiming that they had been in similar situations.

Many of them claimed to have had similar experiences due to being unaware of the existence of mandatory tipping, which had led them to tip twice.

Additional Fees

In recent times, casinos and hotels in Las Vegas have been on the downturn.

Some believe this to be the main factor in the increase of gratuity fees.

Tipping culture has for a long time been a social custom, one that is more than prevalent in Vegas..

In Las Vegas, the tip percentage averages at around 15-20%, which is typically due to the large number of dining choices.
