Powerball Jackpot Surpasses the $200M Mark, Reaches $217M
While the Wednesday lull might have seemed like a bad April Fool’s joke to many players who hoped to win the grand prize, the next drawing will take place this Saturday, giving them another shot at the jackpot
Yesterday’s Powerball drawing did not award the grand prize. Thanks to this, however, the jackpot continued to grow and has now surpassed the $200 million mark.
No April Fool’s Windfall, Unfortunately
The Wednesday Powerball drawing was somewhat uneventful as it failed to produce a jackpot winner. In addition to that, the drawing had no Match 5 winners, meaning that no one won the game’s second-tier prize of $1 million ($2 million with Power Play) either.
For context, the jackpot for yesterday’s drawing stood at $195 million with a one-time lump sum option of $87.5 million. In order to win that prize, players had to match all six numbers in the game, which include five white balls and the red Powerball.
The winning combination drawn on April 1 was 4, 10, 11, 52, 64. The red Powerball drawn was 24. The Power Play multiplier, on the other hand, was 3x, which greatly increased the winnings of quite a few players.
While no one matched the five white balls to win the second-tier prize, some thirteen players matched four white numbers and the Powerball, netting each of them prizes of $50,000. However, six of those players had the Power Play feature and will take $150,000 each instead.
Since the jackpot went unclaimed, it has continued to grow and is now standing at $217 million with a cash value of $97.4 million. While the Wednesday lull might have seemed like a bad April Fool’s joke to many players who hoped to win the grand prize, the next drawing will take place this Saturday, giving them another shot at the jackpot.
Players in Arkansas Won Two Powerball Jackpots
The most recent Powerball jackpot was won in early March when a player in Arkansas bagged a prize of $251 million.
A player in Arkansas won one of the previous Powerball jackpots, too, turning a single ticket into a true Christmas miracle. To top it all off, the win, which happened last December, awarded a jaw-dropping $1.8 billion prize – the second biggest Powerball prize in the history of the game.
