Plans for Smaller Second Las Vegas Sphere Revealed

The company that created the Las Vegas Sphere has revealed plans to create a second smaller version just 15 minutes away from Washington, DC

Sphere Entertainment has announced plans for the construction of a smaller version of the Las Vegas Sphere.

The state of Maryland, Prince George’s county and Peterson Companies have all teamed up with Sphere Entertainment to create the scaled-down version of the iconic interactive Sphere.

Since its opening in September 2023, the Las Vegas Sphere has undoubtedly become a major landmark for the city.

The second, smaller venue, will be at the National Harbor in Maryland, which is located 15 minutes away from Washington, DC.

Incentives for the project are being gathered, with the target goal being $200 million.

This will be the first of a series of mini-Spheres, as it comes with 6,000 seats in comparison to the one located in Nevada, which has approximately 18,000 seats.

The Las Vegas Sphere opened in 2023

It will also have a scaled-down version of the original Sphere’s Exosphere, an external display where artistic and branded content can be displayed.

During the press release, it was referred to as the “world’s highest-resolution LED screen.”

Immersive sound technology, 4D environmental effects, as well as a wrap-around 16K x 16K high-resolution screen, comparable to the original, will be implemented into the mini-Sphere’s interior.

Getting the Mini-Sphere Approved

In a post on X, the Las Vegas Sphere account shared that the project aims to provide significant benefits to the economy, culture, and the community of Maryland by creating “a new Maryland landmark”.

No specific date has been given for when the project will start or finish, as several approvals are still needed before it can even begin.

It is expected that over $1 billion in annual revenue will be generated for the region once the mini-Sphere is complete.

Around 2,500  temporary construction jobs will be created during the construction, then once operational, an estimated 4,750 permanent jobs will become available.

Next Mini-Sphere already Announced

Plans for another full-scale Sphere have already been revealed even before the Maryland mini-Sphere’s approval.

As per the company’s strategy to expand internationally by creating similar venues across the world, this one will be located in Abu Dhabi.
