Paraguay to Defend With Everything

Paraguay came close to snatching a point off Colombia in the first round of the 2024 Copa America. They went 2:0 down at the half time, but then scored a goal in the 69^th minute of the match.

It gave them a boost to create a few more chances, but they failed to make them count. The reason is simple – Paraguay’s players just feel more comfortable when they’re defending rather than attacking.

This is why we’ll probably see them defend with all they’ve got against Brazil. In turn, they’ll probably look for their chances only through counterattacks and set pieces. This could work given that they have some pacey wingers (e.g., Miguel Almiron) and a couple of strikers who are great in the air (e.g., Alex Arce).

A Must-Win Game for Brazil

After one round of the 2024 Copa America, Brazil is second in Group D with one point. That’s the same number as Costa Rica with whom the Brazilians played 0:0 in the opening round. If they want to win the group, they need to start winning.

The good news is that they definitely have plenty of talent on the roster. Coach Dorival Junior has plenty of options for every position on the field, with his biggest stars being those in the final third – Vini Jr., Raphinha, etc.
