Pair of Powerball Winners to Split $1.8B Jackpot

The unthinkable has happened, with the Powerball jackpot finally dropping, and a pair of winners not set to divvy up the spoils

After 40-plus draws of relative Powerball jackpot dryness, a pair of tickets – one from Missouri and one from Texas – have claimed the eye-watering amount, minting at least two new millionaires in the process.

Pair of Tickets to Share Spoils of Latest Powerball Jackpot

The Powerball jackpot had reached nearly $1.8 billion, or $1.787 billion to be precise, and the tickets matched the same numbers: 11, 23, 44, 61, 62, and the red Powerball – 17, with a multiplier of 2.

The winners now have two options in front of them – choose the annuity option for $893.5 million each (a less popular option) or scoop the whole shebang and claim $410.3 million in one solid go.

These sums, though, do not include the customary taxes that will further pare down the total amount in the end. What is even more impressive about this win is that it is the second-largest win in the history of the game, and it was commemorated by a pair of gamblers winning.

New Jackpot Record Just Falls Short of the Mark

Commenting on the latest drop, Powerball product group chair and Iowa Lottery CEO Matt Stawn had this to say: “Each $2 ticket sold during this Powerball jackpot run gave players a chance at the prize, while also supporting vital public programs and services in their communities.”

The latest prize missed the mark of topping the previous jackpot – $2.04-billion win in California in 2022. The game continues to be a major source of interest for players across the nation, and it has been consistently topping new record-breaking sums, although the latest prize pool fell short of setting a new record by just one draw.
