NorthStar Gaming Appoints New CEO & Chair Following Moskowitz’s Exit

Moskowitz’s exit comes shortly after NorthStar published its Q3 report and highlighted potential risks of agreement breaches with creditors

Canadian gambling and sports betting company NorthStar Gaming Holdings announced major leadership changes due to the departure of its chief executive officer and chair, Michael Moskowitz. The company unveiled two new appointments to fill in the gaps left by his exit.

Moskowitz Departs, Goodman Named Interim CEO

According to NorthStar Gaming’s announcement. Moskowitz is no longer chair or CEO of the board. The company added that its board of directors has opted to elect Corey Goodman, one of its founders and current chief development officer and general counsel as interim chief executive officer.

NorthStar Gaming described Goodman as an extremely knowledgeable and experienced individual whose discipline will ensure the business’s continued success. To that end, the appointee will work closely with the board to guide NorthStar to refine its cost structure, enhance its operational discipline, and drive improvement efforts in terms of both revenue and profitability.

For context, Moskowitz’s exit comes shortly after NorthStar published its Q3 report and highlighted potential risks of agreement breaches with creditors. The company said that its cash flow and liquidity might be insufficient to cover all advertising and debt-related costs. While NorthStar was fairly confident that it wouldn’t come to that, it noted that a potential breach could force it to implement certain adjustments and seek additional debt or equity financing.

Dean MacDonald Elected Chair, Barry Shafran Exits

Since Moskowitz also occupied the chair seat, NorthStar added that it has named Dean MacDonald as its new board chair.

MacDonald commented on Goodman’s appointment as CEO, praising him as an “essential contributor” to the company and, on behalf of the board of directors, expressed full confidence in the appointee’s leadership and knowledge.

His [Goodman’s] balanced and disciplined approach will help ensure continuity while we focus on strengthening performance and positioning NorthStar for long-term growth.

In addition to that, Barry Shafran, a board member and chair of the company’s Audit Committee, has resigned from his position. As of the time of this writing, NorthStar has yet to appoint a replacement.
