NFL Super Bowl Projected to Attract Record Volume of Bets

The report highlights New York as the top state in terms of Super Bowl bets, predicting that local bettors will spend $170.7 million on wagers

The upcoming Super Bowl is expected to be one of the most bet-on events ever as experts predict that fans will wager up to $1.7 billion.

Super Bowl to Generate $1.7B in Wagers

Set to take place next month, the culmination of the NFL season will see the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks clash. As the highly anticipated game approaches, analysts have predicted that it will be one of the most bet-on sporting events for the year.

According to an analysis co-created by Legal Sports Report and the Sports Betting Alliance, fans would wager roughly $1.7 billion on the February 9 game. The so-called Legal Sports Report-Sports Betting Alliance Super Bowl 60 Legal Wager Forecast provides detailed state-by-state predictions about the legal betting activity that will take place.

The $1.7 billion figure would mark a notable increase from 2025, when players wagered $1.55 billion on the final event of the NFL season.

The report highlights New York as the top state in terms of Super Bowl bets, predicting that local bettors will spend $170.7 million on wagers. New Jersey is not far behind with $160.6 million in projected bets. Rounding up the top three is Nevada, where players are expected to wager $144.2 million.

Other leading states surpassing the $100 million mark are expected to include Illinois, Florida, and Ohio, with $113.5 million, $111.9 million, and $104.4 million, respectively. Pennsylvania will likely be a little further behind at $96.8 million.

Joe Maloney, president of the Sports Betting Alliance, commented on the forecasts, saying that the projected growth in betting volume attests to the importance of having a legal market and preventing betting money from leaking into offshore operators. In addition to depriving the US of millions of dollars in tax money, unlicensed sites offer none of the player protections mandated by the legal gaming market, he argued.

Legal online sports betting generates billions of dollars in revenue for states and local communities, helping them fund essential public services and programs, in areas like education and health care. Expanding and modernizing legal sports betting isn’t just smart policy – it’s essential to protecting consumers and ensuring communities benefit.
