New York Shooter Was Arrested in Las Vegas Casino 2 Years Ago

Officers had arrested Tamura for trespassing and booked him into the Clark County Detention Center after he declined to present identification to claim a $5,000 prize at the Red Rock Casino

As new information about the terrible shooting that happened in New York on Monday this week surfaces, it has become apparent that the gunman, Shane Tamura, was once arrested in 2023 at the Red Rock Casino in Las Vegas.

Tamura Had Been arrested in a Las Vegas Casino Before

According to an arrest report referenced by several news outlets, the Las Vegas resident was taken into custody on September 27, 2023, after allegedly refusing to leave Red Rock Casino in Summerlin. The incident reportedly started when Tamura declined to present identification to claim a $5,000 prize, then refused to leave the casino’s cashier area until he received the money.

The situation escalated, and Tamura reached out to grab the security officer who had been called to help defuse the situation. At that point, a police sergeant placed him in handcuffs. Tamura was then held in a security holding cell, where he eventually gave officers his name and date of birth after being informed he could face arrest. Officers later escorted him to the parking lot and notified him that he was trespassing.

Officers arrested Tamura for trespassing and booked him into the Clark County Detention Center. He was released a few hours later. Two months afterward, prosecutors dismissed the charges, citing the minor nature of the offense, which was classified as a low-level misdemeanor.

It should also be mentioned that in 2024, Tamura was cited, although not taken into custody, for driving without a valid license and registration.

What Happened on that Tragic Day in New York?

Shane Devon Tamura, 27, went into 345 Park Ave. in Manhattan just after the end of business Monday, July 28. He was armed with an M4 rifle and opened fire in the lobby and again on the 33rd floor, killing four people. Tamura then pointed the gun at himself and took his own life, New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said.

A note found in Tamura’s pocket expressed frustration with the NFL and claimed he was suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), according to a source who spoke to CNN. It is said that Tamura had played competitive football in his younger years. CTE can only be definitively diagnosed through a postmortem examination of the brain. Officials stated that the perpetrator’s brain will be examined for CTE.

Tamura is listed at a Las Vegas address, and the BMW he exited in Manhattan is registered to him in Nevada. According to Commissioner Tisch, investigators discovered a rifle case containing rounds, ammunition magazines, and a loaded revolver inside the vehicle.

A spokesperson for Horseshoe Las Vegas stated on Tuesday that Tamura was employed as a surveillance worker at the casino resort. Las Vegas police are assisting the NYPD in their investigation of Tamura, who was a Las Vegas resident and drove cross-country to New York.
