Nevada Is the Wickedest State of Them All, Study Says
Nevada has been labeled the most deceitful state in a study conducted by The New York Post
The New York Post has recently released a report on a survey the media outlet conducted, which labeled Nevada as the most deceitful state in America, as well as ranked the state first in lying, cheating, and document forging.
70% out of Nevada’s 3.27 million residents are based in Las Vegas, the city that this report slanders by stating that: “There’s a reason they say what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. ”
Their survey was conducted by taking into account all fraud reports, romance scams, identity theft, fake doctor’s notes, fake IDs, and Google searches for the notorious website Ashley Madison, a service built to enable extramarital trysts.
According to data the Post took from Tarotoo, an online tarot reading site, Nevada has the second-highest rate of romance scams, as they claim that 1 in 5 residents “admits to frequent fibbing”.
The Deadly Heartbreaker Story
In their report, the Post cites an arrest from last year, when the FBI apprehended the 43-year-old Aurora Phelps for committing “romance scam on steroids”.
Phelps, who over the course of 3 years, would use dating apps to lure men in, incapacitate them, and steal their identities to gain access to their bank accounts and drain any funds she could.
The average age of her victims was between 60 and 70. Authorities have stated that her crimes have supposedly been linked to three deaths.
Comparison to the States Leading in Individual Categories
In their report, they mention that while other states beat out Nevada on individual categories, such as Florida being first in fraud and Arizona having the highest rate of romance scams. Nevada still outdoes them when it comes to the overall amount of scams in general.
The numbers presented for Florida show that its 2,179 reports per 100,000 people earn it the number one spot for fraud, followed by 528 per 100,000 people for identity theft.
First place for having the most romance scams reported belongs to Arizona, with over $53 million stolen in 2024 by love swindlers.
