MGM Goes Green in Vegas with 100% Solar-Powered Daytime Electricity
MGM Resorts explained that this milestone is consistent with the company’s broader environmental initiatives and renewable energy strategy
MGM Resorts International was pleased to report having reached what it called a “significant milestone” in its renewable energy strategy. According to the international casino and hospitality giant, its Las Vegas Strip casinos are now 100% powered by solar energy, at least during daytime.
MGM Secures Extra Solar Energy to Minimize Its Carbon Footprint
In its announcement, MGM Resorts explained that this milestone is consistent with the company’s broader environmental initiatives and renewable energy strategy. It added that the achievement was made possible after its on-Strip casinos began receiving 115 MW of solar energy and 400 megawatt-hours (MWh) of battery storage in December 2025 from the recently completed Escape Solar and Storage Project, located in Lincoln County, Nevada.
MGM Resorts elaborated that it combined the power from the newly activated project with its existing 100 MW Mega Solar Array. With another 115 MW on top of the company’s existing 100, MGM Resorts’ Vegas properties effectively more than doubled their access to renewable energy.
In addition to that, Escape Solar’s battery system has allowed MGM Resorts to store solar energy generated during peak production hours. As a result, the company can now use stored energy to power its operations during evening hours and lower-production periods.
MGM Remains Committed to Adopting Renewable Energy
MGM penned its agreement with Escape Solar in 2024, securing access to clean energy for the next 25 years. The deal aligned with the company’s ambition to expand its renewable energy and reduce its carbon footprint.
MGM Resorts has been seeking to reduce its emissions since 2016. In the years since, the company has been investing heavily in expanding its sources of renewable energy.
MGN’s projects to reduce its carbon emissions saw it invest in a 323,000-panel Mega Solar Array providing 100 MW to its Las Vegas properties, install 26,000 solar panels providing 8.3 MW atop the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, and install 3,456 solar panels atop the parking garage at MGM Springfield, Massachusetts.
The company also invested in a 100 kW rooftop solar array powering its T-Mobile Arena.
CEO Hornbuckle Praised the Progress
Bill Hornbuckle, the president and chief executive officer of the casino giant, was pleased with his company’s progress in terms of securing renewable energy.
With this new project coming online, we are accelerating progress toward our goal of using 100% renewable electricity domestically by 2030. Together with our Mega Solar Array, the new Escape Solar and Storage Project reflects our focus on scalable, impactful clean-energy solutions.

Hornbuckle added that the latest project proves that large gaming enterprises can be operated sustainably while remaining strong contributors to operators’ business.
