Meridianbet Wraps Up Fairbet Acquisition to Grow in Malta

Company officials said that the latest acquisition fully aligns with Meridianbet’s ongoing strategy of “combining organic growth with selective M&A in markets where regulatory frameworks favor consolidation”

Gaming and betting operator Meridianbet announced that it has completed its acquisition of fellow gaming operator Fairbet. With Fairbet being a holder of a gaming license in Malta, the deal will allow Meridianbet to grow its local presence.

Meridianbet Solidifies Its Presence in Malta

According to Meridianbet’s official announcement, the company now has full ownership of Fairbet’s operations, which span across Malta and Gozo. As a result, the former company has significantly expanded its land-based presence in the region, setting it up for further success.

The agreement between the two companies will also see Meridianbet add 9 new retail locations, expanding its local portfolio to 20 storefronts. Fairbet, which had a previous tech partnership with Meridianbet, will now be fully integrated into the Meridianbet brand.

Meridianbet emphasized that this deal is of particular importance to its business since it allows it to expand its footprint in one of Europe’s most restrictive casino markets. As a result of the following deal, Meridianbet, which is a subsidiary of Golden Matrix Group, possesses two of Malta’s three gaming licenses. The third one is held by Izibet, which operates Malta’s National Lottery.

The Deal Reflects the Company’s Strategic M&A Approach

Company officials said that the latest acquisition fully aligns with Meridianbet’s ongoing strategy of “combining organic growth with selective M&A in markets where regulatory frameworks favor consolidation.”

Zoran Milosevic, the company’s chief executive officer, elaborated that the deal strengthens Meridianbet’s position in a market known for its stringent rules and limitations. In addition to allowing his team to grow in Malta, the deal also highlights Meridianbet’s ethos when it comes to growth, Milosevic said.

The deal also demonstrates our strategic M&A approach – targeting acquisitions in high-barrier markets where limited licensing to create structural competitive advantages.

Meridianbet, whose business has long been rooted in Malta, hopes that its local growth will allow it to capitalize on the local demand for gaming, as well as on the high tourist traffic Malta and Gozo are usually associated with.

Beyond Malta, Meridianbet has also been pursuing growth in other key European markets via a variety of deals. These included a sponsorship agreement with the famous soccer club based in Bosnia and Herzegovina, FK Sarajevo.

The company currently has a presence in markets across several continents and continues to be on the lookout for new strategic opportunities.
