Mega Millions Drawing Goes Without Big Winners

Mega Millions seems to be experiencing the occasional lull

Mega Millions continues to fulfill many people’s dreams, but as it turns out, the latest drawing just wasn’t it. In addition to not electing a jackpot winner, the Tuesday drawing had quite a few winners in terms of smaller prizes, according to the game’s official website.

A Rather Uneventful Drawing

Despite awarding two jackpots almost back-to-back a few weeks ago, Mega Millions seems to be experiencing the occasional lull. In addition to not crowning a winner of its top prize, the game did not award a second-tier seven-figure prize to any player since no one matched enough numbers correctly.

According to Mega Millions, the winning numbers for the January 20 drawing were the following: 8, 47, 50, 56, 79, and a Mega Ball of 12. Matching all of them would have resulted in a $250 million payday for a lucky customer. Instead of choosing the annuity option, a potential winner could have also opted to take the one-time lump sum of $113.5 million.

However, the jackpot survived. Not only that, but it seems that no player managed to match all five numbers to win a seven-figure prize. Usually, matching these numbers yields a prize of $2 million, although players with a higher modifier can get up to $10 million.

In addition to that, there were only a few winners of Mega Millions’ third-tier prize who matched four white numbers and the Mega Ball. These included two players with a multiplier of 2x who took home $20,000 each, as well as three winners of $30,000 thanks to their 3x multiplier.

In the meantime, the jackpot has reached $266 million with a cash option of $120.8 million. The next drawing will take place this Friday, at 11 pm ET.

Missouri Player Won $3M, Jackpot Winner Came Forward to Claim Prize

Earlier this month, a player from Missouri became one of the recipients of a second-tier prize from Mega Millions, taking home a sweet prize of $3 million.

At around the same time, the winner of the $938 million Mega Millions jackpot that landed last fall came forward to secure their prize. This was not an uncommon, if somewhat curious, case of a person claiming their prize a few months after winning. The same happened in the UK, too, where a winner who won a jackpot at around the same time as the lucky Mega Millions player came forward to claim it at roughly the same time.

This might also be the case for the mysterious Powerball winner from Arkansas who won a life-changing prize of $1.8 billion but has yet to claim it. This has sparked all kinds of rumors about the winner’s identity, with some suggesting that the winning ticket might have been lost.
