A senior man, Reginald Lively, 68, has been sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for the murder of John Hall III, another 68-year-old man, whom he brutally killed over what is believed to be a $1,000 casino win.

Lively has already served sentences for murder after he pleaded guilty to the murder of Eleanor Williams, whom he also stabbed and killed in 1983. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison but was released after eight years served.

One of the Most Horrifying and Senseless Murderers

Yet, that would not be all for Lively, who also went on to kill one Willy Mae Arrington in North Carolina in 2000 and received a 30-year sentence, out of which he served 12 years. Baltimore City State’s Attorney Ivan Bates was uncompromising in his surmise of Lively, whom he called a violent man who needed to be removed from society.

In fact, Bates argued that Lively should never have been allowed to walk free, in what is one of the worst cases of recidivists in criminal law. Lively’s latest victim had already complained about the ex-con, and specifically that he would break in and steal money from his apartment.

The Law Failed the Victims for Allowing Lively to Continue Killing

The police did not do much in that case until that fateful May 28, 2021, when Hall was found dead with 17 blunt-force trauma injuries and 88 stab wounds.

Police were able to verify that money was indeed missing from the apartment, and given Lively’s previous history, he was quickly brought on charges for Hall’s murder, which he admitted to at a later point.

Lively wasn’t specifically looking for the man’s $1,000 casino win, but he took it anyway.
