Man Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison for Manslaughter of Casino New Brunswick Manager

In delivering her ruling at Moncton’s Court of King’s Bench, Justice Christa Bourque took Glaspy’s level of intoxication into account during sentencing

Michael Thomas Glaspy, 53, has been sentenced to three years in prison for the manslaughter of Rodney Frenette, a manager at Casino New Brunswick in the UK. In addition, Glaspy will also be banned from owning or possessing firearms for a period of ten years.

Glaspy Sentenced for Frenette’s Death

Rodney Frenette passed away on March 28, 2023, at a hospital in Moncton, 24 days after being assaulted at a pub located inside Casino New Brunswick. The jury deliberated for approximately six hours before reaching a verdict against Glaspy, a resident of Riverview, to find him guilty of the death of Frenette.

During the trial, witnesses described the events that unfolded in the early hours of March 4, 2024, when Frenette, 56, and Glaspy, 53, were involved in a physical altercation. The court heard that Glaspy assaulted Frenette, causing him to fall to the ground and strike his head, which resulted in a terrible injury that led to his eventual passing. A pathologist had confirmed this, saying that Frenette died of blunt force trauma to the head and suffered a stroke.

In delivering her ruling at Moncton’s Court of King’s Bench, Justice Christa Bourque took Glaspy’s level of intoxication into account during sentencing, according to CBC reports. Glaspy also stated that he had not consumed alcohol since the incident and had expressed remorse to Frenette’s family.

There Were Complications During the Trial

A key question during the trial was whether Glaspy was responsible for Frenette’s fall and resulting skull fracture. Testimony revealed that Frenette died from blunt force trauma to the skull and a subsequent stroke.

Prior to his death in 2023, Frenette had provided a statement to police outlining the incident at the casino. He explained that he had been watching Glaspy and his wife on the dance floor and told Glaspy he would no longer serve him alcohol, asking him to leave the pub. Security footage shown during the trial captured Glaspy approaching Frenette in the casino pub with a drink in hand and his jacket.

Frenette recalled encountering Glaspy at the pub and being punched in the face, but said he remembered nothing after that.
